End The War In Iraq For All Kinds Of ReasonsAlthough there may be some Americans that stil feel that we should continue the war in Iraq, there are many more that think that we should end the war in Iraq. There are many reasons that the war should be ended. Most important point being that the original reasons that we entered into this war, Weapons of Mass Destructions, and the threat of Saddam Hussein, either never really were found (WMD) or have been totally solved (Saddam Hussein is dead) and therefore logically there is no need for the recent buildup of troops in Iraq. Yes, there is a civil war between the various Muslim sects (Sunni & Shia namely), but that is not a threat to America.
Reasons to end the war in Iraq Some might argue that there may be reasons to keep some troops in Iraq. These might be the local uprisings between the Shi and Sunni Muslims, the apparent civil war in the area and other possible reasons. However, there are many more reasons to bring the troops home and end the war in Iraq. The best reason to bring the troops home is that Iraq and its leadership and people are no longer a threat to America. Saddam Hussein has had his day in court in his local country, he received the death sentence and that sentence was carried out. Another point is the missing weapons of mass destruction. That reason for going to war was eliminated as a possibility as early as January of 2004 as admitted by David Kay Former Special Advisor for Strategy regarding weapons of mass destruction programs (Testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee), shortly after the war began. There never were any weapons of mass destruction. Therefore, with President Bush's most compelling reasons to go to war eliminated it definitely is not time to send more troops to Iraq, but to begin bringing them home as soon as possible. Another reason stated for going to war was the link between Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden. This has been found to have been historically inaccurate by the 9/11 Commission on June 16, 2004 (Staff Statement #15 Overview of the Enemy). Bin Ladin and Saddam Hussein were actually opponents and held opposing views on several issues. The cost of the war is another reason for ending the war. It was originally projected to run between $100-$200 Billion dollars, but has already cost over $300 Billion dollars. Clearly, this war is costing us a lot more than we had originally planned. Congress' power to end the war in Iraq It is congress, and that of the people of America that had the power to authorize President Bush to go to war, which he did ask them for, after the fact. Congress does have the power de-authorize President Bush and at that point he cannot veto it, but instead has end the war in Iraq and cannot legally remain at war. So, there were reasons for going to war, but these reasons have all been solved or legitimately found to be invalid. |
