Effects Of War On Iraq Have Been Going On For 4 YearsThe war on Iraq has been going on for over four years now and we are definitely seeing the effects both here in America and in the region of Iraq itself. There are both social and economical effects. Most of the effects of the war on Iraq are negative and very little of what President Bush has wanted to achieve has resulted. One major effect of the "war on terror" can actually be called the "war to promote terror". This effect alone we will not be seen for some time to come, but it is one that can have many unforeseen negative effects, both locally and worldwide. Positive effects of the war There are several positive effects that need to be brought up before so many negative ones. Saddam Hussein and the ruling party that terrorized that country have been dealt with legally in court and have gotten the death penalty. A regime that has haunted and destroyed so many lives is ended. The Iraqi people have been allowed at least a degree of freedom that they hadn't had before.
Regional effects of the War on Iraq One of the greatest effects of the war on Iraq is the religious division among the local Muslim groups, namely the Sunni and the Shia. The Shia Muslim sect is the majority in the local region and has been exerting control over the local Sunni's. Of course there are the immediate social effects of being a citizen of a country that is being bombed and attacked by other nations of the world. Mother's watch their children killed right before their very own eyes, while mother's here do have their sons killed at war, they do not have the awful necessity of occasionally watching it as it happens in real life. Promoting Terrorism not ending it One of the major effects of the "war on terror" is just the opposite of what President Bush had initially wanted. Iraqi children and young adults are learning hate the foreigners (not only Americans) that brought this war upon them. Now, they are more likely to join groups, not only Al-Qua'ida, which teach and promote terrorist acts throughout the world, thus increasing, not decreasing terror. Some of this has already been seen by the increase of suicide bombers in a sect where it had no previously been a method of terror. Effects on American Citizens While there is a great potential for the local effects of the war on Iraq, there are also effects to be seen here in the states also. Iraq, being the third largest producer of oil has had to nearly shut down all oil production, sending gas prices here in the US skyrocketing. This is also a backfire of one of the main reasons to go to war, that of helping the US economy. Conclusion These are just a few of the effects of the war on Iraq. The war will have both long-term and short term effects not only on the local citizens there, but the soldiers who are fighting overseas and come home injured in mind and spirit if not in body. |
