Bush Iraq War Because Of WMD
President Bush told the American people and the coalition partners around the world that we were all in danger because of the current regime in Iraq and their weapons of mass destruction. We saw pictures of what the leadership in Iraq did to thousands of their own people over the last few decades. This included the gassing of innocent Kurds in their villages in northern Iraq. The overthrowing of Suddam Hussain's government was not difficult and coalition troops were able to quickly take over the country and the cities. The harder part was to find the weapons of mass destruction that were allegedly hidden throughout the countryside.
Three years after the start of President Bush's war in Iraq, admissions were made that America's information was flawed and the invasion of Iraq was begun under bad information. Once President Bush did acknowledge that the information gathered from many different reliable sources was wrong, he told the American people that it was still right to overthrow this regime because of their links to terrorists. Today, there is great debate over the reasons for starting this invasion and on how to end our involvement in it. Gone are the days when Americans were rallying together to extinguish terrorists. Our unity after the September 11 attacks has waned and we are no longer interested in what is happening to other people in their countries. The American people have a very short memory and we are not willing to stay the course to help others. We would like to sit back in our homes and ignore the problems of others-just writing a check to some type of organization hoping that they will care of the problems of the world. People say that this is President Bush's war in Iraq, but it is truly a global war on terror and the American people are being given a lot of negative and bad information about it. Regardless of your personal beliefs, the war on terror is not an easy one and the President keeps telling us that. While President Bush's war in Iraq goes on, we need to focus on the bigger picture and that is of terrorism everywhere. We are fighting only on one small battlefield and we can not lose this battle. There is going to come a time when the United States will be hit again-this is just to be expected. Do not close your mind to President Bush's war in Iraq. Yes, we are losing many young people for a cause that is difficult for many people to understand. But, you need to think about the bigger picture when it comes to Iraq. If we walk out, we have lost. And, we have lost more than the country of Iraq-we will lose our personal self-esteem and the respect of other governments around the world. They will see us as a nation of people that can not maintain their perspective and keep their promises. President Bush's war in Iraq will end, someday. Hopefully, when it ends the people in Iraq will have a stable government that will lead them into the next decade. |
