Baghdad Iraq WarSeeing the battle first via CNN on the Iraq war provided everyone with an opportunity to see the city of Baghdad as coalition troops captured the city. The people in Baghdad were dancing in the street and tearing down statutes of Saddam Hussein and were greeting the invading troops as heroes. Over 3 years later the city of Baghdad and the war in Iraq are still not over and we are continuously sending more and more American and coalition troops over to help maintain calm and stability in the city while giving their Parliament time to come up with strong viable working government.
The average person would expect that the city of Baghdad would have recovered from the effects of the war that occurred there just a few short years ago. But, nothing can be further from the truth. There is still a war being raged in the capital city of Iraq-Baghdad. The war in Iraq's capital city of Baghdad has continued on because of sectarian religious differences, tribal feuds that have been going on for centuries and factions loyal to the previous government, continued ongoing terrorists attacks against not only the coalition troops that came to help, but also against innocent civilians that are just trying to rebuild their own lives and those of their children. The battle for Baghdad and dozens of other smaller cities in Iraq continues every day. On the evening news you see the effects of marketplace bombings, the videos of kidnapped contractors begging for their lives, the endless parade of funeral precessions, and the mounting casualty count of our own troops. You are probably wondering when the battle for Baghdad will really be over. Well, that might not be for many years. It can and will take a long time before a stable government will be in place that can provide leadership to the entire country of Iraq. Maybe then the war will end. Until the country of Iraq can stand on its own two feet with a central government running the country, the war will continue and will be fought in the streets of Baghdad. Regardless of your personal opinion about the war in Iraq, you do know deep down inside that we can not let the average citizens of Baghdad and the entire nation slide back into their former life style. The dictatorship that ruled with an iron fist can reoccur if the coalition troops all leave the country. There would be massive chaos, thousands of people executed and this would be only be the tip of the iceberg. Leaving Baghdad and the war in Iraq behind abruptly will allow terrorists to gain a foothold in this country that will unstoppable. If we can not gain the support of the people now, what will happen after we walk out and leave them at the mercy of terrorists? |
